Recently there has been a huge outbreak of a virus called the coronavirus (COVID-19) that is spreading very fast. Currently there is no vaccine to prevent the novel coronavirus. The reason it has spread so fast is because of stealth transmission. We are still making an effort to contain the spread of the virus but it has been very difficult. COVID-19 is a virus that scientists haven’t seen before. Like other viruses, it is believed to have started in animals and spread to humans. Animal-to-person spread was suspected after the initial outbreak in December among people who had a link to a large seafood and live animal market in Wuhan, China.

Since the coronavirus has spread so fast, schools and small businesses have closed down. The virus has infected multiple people and has caused multiple people to die. One of the ways that the government is slowing the spread is by keeping everyone in quarantine and only letting people leave their house for groceries. Lately, not a lot of people have been staying home which is a big problem because then the virus will take longer to get rid of. Since the quarantine has been taken into action a lot of people don’t know what to do to prevent them from bringing the coronavirus home.

Some ways to prevent from getting the coronavirus or bringing the virus home is:

  • When you go out stay within 6 feet from other people
  • Clean your hands often
  • Use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Clean and disinfect tables, doorknob, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.

If you use these tips it should help you prevent getting corona and help you stay healthy.  If you develop a fever, get a cough, and are having difficulty breathing please seek medical advice promptly. If you have any health conditions please take more health precautions because the virus could affect your body worse. Make sure you stay home and stay safe.
