On Sunday, March 3rd and Monday, March 4th, a documentary about the alleged sexual abuse against underage boys at the hands of Michael Jackson aired on HBO. Now, the Jackson Estate is suing HBO for defamation of character.

The film focuses on Wade Robson and James Safechuck, two men who have allegedly been sexually abused by Jackson when they were young boys in the 1990’s.

Both worked with Jackson in the entertainment industry; Safechuck met Jackson during the filming of a Pepsi advertisement while Robson won a dancing contest and got to meet Jackson as a reward.

Jackson reportedly shared a bed with the boys while their parents stayed in a separate hotel room; the location of the rooms were suspiciously moved farther and farther apart from one another.

Eventually, Jackson was brought to court for the allegations in 2005. However, he was acquitted of all the charges as the jury believed that the victim’s parents told the children to lie about what happened.

During the trial, one of the boys that was on Jackson’s defense was Robson himself who was “excited by the idea of being able to defend him.”

However, the story changed a few years after Jackson’s death in 2009. Both Safechuck and Robson filed lawsuits. Despite adamantly trying to clear Jackson’s name years prior, Robson now states that he was sexually assaulted by the pop icon.

The content of the documentary has become a heated debate among celebrities and civilians alike. While some defend Jackson, others stand with the victims.

There are two sides of the dispute; on one side is Jackson’s family, loyal fans and supporters who defend his innocence and claim that there is no truth to the allegations. They believe that Robson and Safechuck are trying to profit from the situation, now that Jackson is no longer alive to defend himself.

On the other side are the victims, their families and those who believe their story. They want the truth about Jackson, and what he did behind closed doors, to come to light.

Although there were attempts to prevent the documentary from airing on HBO in the first place, the Jackson family tried to direct attention away from the documentary by posting rare concert footage for a limited time on YouTube.

After watching the documentary, we are split on which side to trust. It’s hard to say for sure whether or not Jackson actually committed the acts. Both sides have believable stories with a few parts that we find suspicious, so it’s hard to say which side we fully believe.

It’s also hard to say whether everything in the documentary is true or not. This case is extremely complex. With each side telling a different story making it hard to know what to believe.

What’s for sure is that regardless of what actually happened, this documentary will surely tarnish Jackson’s reputation for years to come.
