‘Circle of Shadows,’ written by Evelyn Skye, is a fascinating novel that draws you in from the first page.

The two main character are Gemina Sora and Daemon. Because they are Gemina, they will work together until they die. They can also sense each other’s emotions.

Most of the Taiga Warriors, those that fight for the Imperial City, are brought to Citadel, their training school,by their parents after they are marked by Luna, the goddess of the moon. The only exception was Daemon; he was left by his parents in the woods and raised by a wolf until a warrior stumbled upon him and saw his mark.

‘Circle of Shadows’ starts during the fall of Sora and Daemon’s 12th year. They are visiting the empress for the Blood Rift, a day when many people lost their life, including Sora’s sister Hana. The reason the Blood Rift, which was a war in which many people were sacrificed and killed children, happened was because Prince Gin, the future emperor, wanted to get Evermore. In order to achieve this, you need to sacrifice people from the age of 1 to 100, one female and one male each; two hundred people had to be sacrificed. Prince Gin died trying to do this, or did he?

This novel created a suspenseful story of a group of warriors that are trying to solve the mystery of Evermore and who invaded the council at the Isle of the Moon. The best part of the book was the was the way the author wrote it. She started it out at the perfect spot to where you would slowly start to understand what is going on with the plot. The worst part of the book was how confusing it was at times. A lot of things were never clearly stated and they are in a new city in every chapter. Another thing was that all the character had nicknames based on their personalities so the switching between Sora and Spirit, her warrior names, and Daemon and Wolf, his warrior name. Overall this book was interesting and confusing but still a good book.
