From Thanksgiving until the end of Christmas, the local public library will be hosting a clothing drive. The clothing drive will be supply winter clothes for those who can not afford it.

Accepted clothing items to donate are mittens, hats, gloves, scarves, and socks. Clothing items must either be homemade or brand new.

The library is open from 10:00am-8:30pm on Mondays-Thursdays, 10:00am-6:00pm on Fridays, 9:00am-5:00pm on Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays.

The Franciscan Alliance is the organization that sponsors the drive and distributes the clothing after Christmas.

According to librarian Linda Johnson, “There are community members that plan for (the drive); all year long they are knitting and in the end there will be lots of homemade knitted items on the tree.”

The first drive did not start long after the opening of the library in 1966. Ever since then it has become an annual tradition.

There is not a set goal for how much clothing the library collects, but each year hundreds of each item are donated to the drive. This, however, is to the exception of socks not usually do not break into the hundreds.
