Finals week has been deemed one of the most stressful and nerve racking weeks for high school students. Finals week includes lots of stress and late nights, and is known to feel like one of the longest weeks of the school year.

“If you are on an edge of a grade, then it will make or break your grade. My mom told me last finals week that I looked like I was going to walk off the edge of a cliff,” said junior Marissa Moore when asked about the stress of finals week.

Finals week includes two days of study sessions and three days of finals. The schedule is now different and does not include fifth period every day like in previous years.

Some students have study halls or aiding periods on some of these days, or simply do not have a final at all. Because of this, some are able to leave early on those days. Because of school rules, they are still required to come to school with a note signed by a parent to be able to leave, and it still counts against students as a non-exempt absent.

Moore and junior Jordan Fiegle are both planning on bringing in a note and leaving school early on Friday since they do not have a final.

“I understand why they want a note since high schoolers do dumb things and want to skip,” Moore said, “but I truly don’t have two finals and it won’t count against me if I leave. My teachers encourage me to leave early too since they don’t want to watch 30 kids do nothing.”

On the other hand, Fiegle believes that there should be an exemption for students who do not have a final.

“The school should allow any student to leave school when they don’t have any finals left instead of making us have to bring a note in,” Fiegle said.

Finals week is a stressful and long week for everyone — whether you are a freshman and this is you first finals experience or if you are a senior and it is your last.
