The film Black Panther was just released this past Friday the 16th. Following the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s story timeline, this movie takes place with T’Challa (aka the Black Panther), played by Chadwick Boseman, returning to his home in Wakanda to take reign after his father was killed in the film Captain America: Civil War. All is well until a powerful enemy resurfaces. T’Challa is then tested to uphold the pledge he took to keep not only the people of Wakanda safe, but also their culture and tradition.

Black Panther is centered around a black superhero and features a mostly black cast, as well as a black director. Instead of being oppressed and fighting for equality, the film Black Panther redefines history and showcases the people of Wakanda living in a highly advanced and successful civilization.

This highly anticipated film offers something that most superhero films have not yet – a story that empowers African Americans to embrace and cherish their culture. Many African Americans came to the film dressed in African American attire to show their pride.

Theaters were sold out throughout the country and the film made 192 million dollars on its opening weekend!

Is the movie worth all of the hype it has been getting, though? I would strongly say yes! Apart from the cultural significance of the film, this movie is a great action film with lots of intense battle scenes which will have you on the edge of your seat. The movie also has its moments of lightheartedness, as several jokes are placed throughout the film.

Overall, the film had a strong and impactful message about people in power only caring about themselves and not giving any thought to the weak. This is an especially important message to heed in today’s day and age.

If you do go and see this film, stay until the end! This movie has two after credit scenes which is something Marvel regularly adds to its movies.

As much as I love a good mindless superhero movie, this movie was really boring. The action scenes were pretty bland and the story wasn’t really that amazing, but I will say the acting was amazing. Was it worth the hype, not really but was it worth the hype, nah, but is it a good movie to just watch for the fun of it, yeah.
