When you ask people who know Brianna Dewey to describe her in one word you get words like “unstoppable” and ”intelligent.” Dewey recently had a surgery to remove a malformation in her skull. The day of the surgery, students and staff of Highland high school were asked to wear purple for her. Her older brother Steven Dewey asked people to post pictures if anyone wore purple, and to use the hashtag #youlldogr9bri.

According to Dewey’s older brother, senior Codey Dewey, “My sister came up with ‘gr9’ and it means one more than great.”

Codey also said, “The thing I admire about my sister is her intelligence. She’s in all AP classes and she’s doing well with them.”

Sophomore Erin Perry said, “When I found out about Bri(anna)’s condition I thought to myself, If anyone can get through this it’s Brianna.’ She’s definitely one of the strongest people I know, so if anything is going to stop her, it isn’t this.”

Brianna said, “I’d like to tell all of Highland that I really appreciate what everyone has done for me. All of the support I’ve gotten, from bracelets from my soccer team to the warmups at our first sectional game, to the purple out at school, and the love and good vibes sent my way! All of it was unexpected but I really appreciate everything!”

Brianna also said, “One person I admire is a six year old from Highland who is going through what I did (the posterior fossa decompression surgery) and tenfold on top of that. When I refereed for Highland Soccer Club, I was a referee for his team. At the time, I had no clue he was any different than anyone else on the field and I’m pretty sure his family didn’t either. This little kid inspired me because he was really strong through all of his procedures, and I figured if he could do it and come out smiling, I could too.”

Brianna is clearly loved by many. Fight like a girl and you will do gr9 Brianna!
